The PGCVFRA is proud to announce a new scholarship fund the support the higher education of our Volunteers. Many of our Volunteers give freely of their time to protect the residents and visitors of Prince George's County will also working to complete college degrees. It is our hope to be a part of their life goals. We will be awarding two $2500.00 scholarships at our 100th Convention in September. THOMAS STOMMEL SCHOLARSHIP AWARD

PRINCE GEORGE’S COUNTY VOLUNTEER FIRE AND RESCUE ASSOCIATION

The Thomas Stommel Scholarship is awarded in honor of Thomas Stommel, a sixty-five (65) plus year member and long-time Chief of the District Heights Volunteer Fire Department. In addition to being a member of District Heights he was also a member of the Prince George’s County Volunteer Fire and Rescue Association and a very active instructor in service to the membership of the Prince George’s County Volunteer Fire and Rescue Association. In his capacity as a Maryland Fire and Rescue Institute instructor, he always exhibited his willingness to instruct his students in the proper scientific methods and techniques of modern-day firefighting. In addition to his fire service instruction, he was also a safety instructor. He dedicated a great deal of his life to being a fire service and safety instructor and it for these reasons and many others, that we dedicate this award to him.
