Training
 

A number of training opportunities are available to PGCVFRA members.

The Maryland Fire and Rescue Institute offers an extensive schedule of classes in the Southern Maryland Region, which includes Prince George's County.  Please see a station officer or your station chief to register for a class.

Volunteer Recruit School

Students must bring a copy of their IS-100 and IS-700 certificates (see Online Training below), a copy of their CPR card, and a signed Form # 4371, "Issuance of Personal Protective Equipment Request/Agreement". You will not be permitted to begin the class without these materials! Classes start promptly at the times indicated.

Online Training

  • All new members must complete two modules of Incident Command System (ICS) training before they attend Volunteer Recruit School. The courses can be taken online through FEMA's website, and both are required: IS-100 (Introduction to Incident Command System) and IS-700 (NIMS An Introduction). Officers also should complete the IS-200 (ICS for Single Resources and Initial Action Incidents) and IS-800 (National Response Framework, An Introduction) classes.
  • CSX has a free, online training program to teach emergency personnel how to respond safely to incidents on and around railroad property and equipment.
  • All EMT providers must complete TripTix User Training, which can be completed online. Following the training, providers must request their login credentials from pgfdtriptix@co.pg.md.us. Credentials will be returned to the individual provider once training is verified.
  • MIEMSS has an free online Prehospital Stroke Module.
  • The Maryland State Police Aviation Command requests that all fire, rescue, and EMS personnel view their new training video on Helicopter Landing Zone Safety.

 

"Stand By To Copy..." from the Prince George's County Volunteer Chiefs' Council

The Prince George's County Volunteer Chief's Council has begun publication of a training bulletin know as "Stand-By To Copy...". Its intent is to keep members current on basic issues that they will encounter on the streets, as well as keep everyone in the mindset of fire suppression.
