The Prince George's County Volunteer Fire & Rescue Association,Prince George's County Fire/EMS Department, and the Prince Georges County Fire Commission have been selected to participate as a pilot in a National SAFER Grant. The Grant was awarded to the International Association of Fire Chiefs (IAFC), in partnership with the International Association of Women in Fire and Emergency Services (iWomen), and the Volunteer and Combination Officers Section of the IAFC.
The national initiative of the Volunteer Workforce Solutions (VWS) program will assist our member Volunteer fire departments with tools to improve their ability to recruit, retain, and manage the volunteer of the future. During PGCVF&RA’s participation in this initiative every Department will have opportunity to attend leadership classes. The IAFC has had great success with “Beyond Hoses and Helmets.” We will be offering this class at a location in north side and the south side of the County. We will also be offering Fire Rescue Organizational Guidance for Volunteer Leaders “FROG” in the same manner.
Each Volunteer Department will be able to manage their volunteers with a “Volunteer Management System”. There are many exciting features of this system that assist with organizing and managing your volunteers.
Marketing tools will be customized to our departments needs. Media outlets will also be tapped into for advertising. PGCVFRA hopes each corporation uses the key to open the door to bring in volunteers of the future.
