| On Sunday, April 12, 2015, from 11 AM until 4 PM, the Maryland State Firemen's Association (MSFA) Recruitment and Retention Committee is asking all Volunteer Fire Departments in the State to staff their stations with members during this time to welcome residents into their community fire houses and be able to talk about volunteering requirements and the need for more volunteers.
A sign up sheet by County for this event has been added to the MSFA website. Each station is asked to sign up to let the MSFA Recruitment and Retention Committee know that you will be participating in the 1st Annual Recruitment Open House. The committee will be supplying each department that participates with special brocures that are being produced for this event.
Here are some ideas for the member departments to do as they prepare for the April 12th Statewide Recruitment Open House:
o Change the marquee in front of your department to announce the open house
o Reach out to media contacts to personally inform them of this upcoming event
o Invite media to attend open house or have a live broadcast
o Encourage local media to cover "A Day in the Life of a Volunteer Firefighter" segment
o Have an interview set up with a local radio, Web or TV personality so that the event is featured in the news
o Set up a special "Event" on your department's Facebook page
o Invite all of your friends and ask them to spread the word
o Post reminders on your individual Facebook Wall frequently
o Upload the "MDVolunteer.org" graphic to your department's website for your visitors to see
o Hang up posters for promotion in your community
o Place yard signs and banners in front of your firehouse
o Distribute a press release to urge community participation
o Add date and event to community online calendars (e.g. TV, radio, organization website)
o If you have a department newsletter or e-blast, include the information about the event
